Village Dry Goods

Village Dry Goods is a full service quilt shop located on the historic Main Street in Brigham City, Utah. We carry a full range of heirloom quality fabrics, quilt kits, patterns, and quilts for sale. One wall is dedicated to yarn for knitters. We also have a full line of embroidery and stitchery supplies. The friendly staff at the shop offers a variety of classes to teach the beginner to the experienced quilter. We have something to please almost every needlework artist.

Village Dry Goods sponsors an annual Winter Retreat in January with 2 day-long classes, fabulous lunches, and a trunk show and dinner at Maddox Restaurant. Many of our attendees enjoy the retreat so much that they sign up for the next year without even knowing who the next visiting quilt artist will be. In 2011 our Winter Retreat instructor will be Pat Speth, author of "Nickel Quilts", "More Nickel Quilts" and "Amazing Nickel Quilts."

Our store has several monthly clubs. Our newest club is Handbag Honeys. The members of this club will get handbag (and accessory) patterns, tips, helpful pattern modifications, great treats and lots of laughs. We have a Pincushion Club that meets once a month to make unique pincushions designed by our own Lori, the club leader. Village Dry Goods also sponsors a Jo's Little Women club with fabrics (over 100 bolts) and exclusive little quilt patterns designed by Jo Morton. At the monthly meetings there are demonstrations of techniques, tools, preparation options, and Show & Share with new stitching friends that enjoy making small quilts.

We have 2 new Block of the Month opportunities. Civil War Tribute starts later this month. This large pieced quilt (100"x112") designed by Homestead Hearth featuring fabrics designed by Judie Rothermel commemorates the 150-year anniversary of the Civil War in 2011. For our applique Block of the Month, we will be making 12 blocks from the book The Circuit Rider's Quilt by Jenifer Dick.

Our staff is looking forward to this year's Shop Hop and our special celebration. FINALLY!! All the Village girls have the opportunity to go to the Prom. Prom dresses have been a challenge .... alterations included. AND we have all been nominated for Prom Queen.

About Whimsy Cottage

The store has been around, in one form or another, since 1997. It was first called Moose Hollow, was in Park City, and only existed for one year. It reopened in early 1999 in Heber City in a wonderful bungalow we severely remodeled. Two years later, we bought the house next door and remodeled it into a retreat house for quilters. Then, in 2002, Whimsy Cottage was the first shop in Utah to be featured in BHG's Quilt Sampler - it was such a surprise and such an honor! For personal reasons, the store was closed for two years. It relocated in Holladay, opened once again in October, 2005 and that's where we are now.

We carry vibrant, true-color fabrics. Ten years ago, those were few but today, they are plentiful. The quilts we make as samples focus on traditional patterns using nontraditional fabrics - and we do lots of applique. Neither the store nor the staff is large - we like to say we're small but mighty! We pride ourselves on customer service.
